OVERVIEW
In 1988, Anna Wintour was appointed as the new editor-in-chief of American Vogue, and so, a new fashion
era began. Wintour chose to mix high-and-low-end fashion designs and set a new agenda for the famous
magazine as well as for many fashionistas around the world. Another innovative idea of Wintour’s was to
photograph Hollywood stars and singers for the magazine's covers. The first singer who had the honor of
posing on Vogue's cover was Madonna in 1989, resulting in Wintour receiving mass criticism over her
editorial judgment. As the years went by, this decision turned Vogue into one
of the most popular fashion magazines in the world.
